Visiting the Thunder Bay Museum

Admission Rates

Admission to the Thunder Bay Museum is on a pay what you can donation basis. The following are recommended donation amounts for entry:

  • $8.00 for Adults
  • $3.00 for Children (6-17)
  • Free for Children 5 and under
  • Free with Membership which includes many other benefits

For groups larger than 12 planning to tour the exhibits, please contact us to schedule your visit. Group rate admissions apply at the rates set above. This does not include education with agreements established for the Thunder Bay Museum. Drivers and tour escorts receive free admission.


Getting Here

The Thunder Bay Museum is located in the downtown core of Fort William, kitty-corner to City Hall on East Donald Street. Catching the bus here is very convenient as the City Hall is a bus terminal location.

If you are driving, you will find two parking lots to the east of our building: one paved, and one gravel. Street parking on East Donald Street is also available.

Accessibility and Washrooms

The Thunder Bay Museum is wheelchair accessible including a ramp leading to our front entrance, automated door openers, and an elevator. Our exhibit spaces have been designed to include enough space for unimpeded movement through them.

All of the washrooms in our facility are accessible however only the first floor accommodates full accessibility requirements. Both the first and third floor washrooms are gender-neutral.

Tuesday to Sunday, 1:00pm to 5:00pm

Summer Hours:
June 15 to Labour Day
Open daily from 11:00am to 5:00pm

We hope that everyone visiting the Thunder Bay Museum has the best experience possible. We ask all visitors to be considerate of each other, our building, and our staff. All Museum visitors are subject to the Thunder Bay Museum’s Code of Conduct.

Below are some quick tips for when you visit.

  • Children 14 years or younger must be accompanied by an adult
  • All visitors must wear shirts and shoes
  • Unless you see a sign indicating a touchable object, please don’t touch objects on display. Even mild touching, over time, can cause damage
  • Please don’t shout or run in the Museum. Swearing and other disrespectful language is also not allowed
  • The Thunder Bay Museum is a smoke-free property. This includes smoking, vaping, or the use of cannabis in any form
  • Please turn your cell phone to “silent” or “vibrate” and be considerate of others when using your phone. Some special exhibitions do not allow cell phone use
  • Everyone entering the Thunder Bay Museum is subject to video surveillance
  • Closing of the building begins 15 minutes before indicated times
