Richard Mastrangelo

Director

Richard Mastrangelo was born in Thunder Bay. He completed a Master of Arts degree in History at Lakehead University before completing a Master of Library and Information Science from Western University. He has worked full-time at the Harry Kirk Archives and Records Centre (City of Thunder Bay Archives) since 2017 and is currently an Associate Archivist. In this role he: reviews, accessions, and describes archival materials; provides reference, research, and privacy services for the city administration and the public; develops historic writing and informational programming; and administers records through every stage in their life cycle.

As part of his work he has supervised and led summer students in projects to update the City of Thunder Bay Archives historical webpages, and in 2021 for a period assumed the role of Heritage Advisor, participating in the research, organization, writing, and review of a report on Vickers Park, being a prominent local historical and community landmark. Richard has published original work on our region’s history as part of his work at the archives, in The Walleye, and Papers & Records. His article in 2018 issue was awarded the Ernest R. Zimmermann Award for First Publication.
